‘Mourning You’ I wrote that in Nashville TN with Buddy Mondlock. I was awakened by the sound of a mourning dove out side Buddy's living room window. I had been staying on his sofa on my visit to music city. I got my guitar out and found out what key the bird was in.. it was C major or A minor. We got out a banjo and a guitar and wrote the first two verses over our morning coffee using both keys. Jesse Winchester had just passed away and the loss of that was on my mind. As a young guitar player and singer I used to play a few of Jesse's songs. I never met him or even saw him play live but I felt as though I had lost a good friend, I own several of his albums. I like to think that just maybe Jesse came to me in the form of a dove and gave me that song. Some time when I sing or write he comes out of me and sometimes it is Waylon Jennings or John Prine. I focused intently on all those guys.
